Merry Yule and Happy Holidays

image

From our family to yours, we wish you a very merry holiday season and a happy New Year.

Here in our house we begin our celebration on December 24th. We have a simple family dinner and open presents. We honor the rebirth of the God in the form of Holly King. And then we fade off to dreams while Santa comes to visit, we hope to leave us a few more presents.

The 25th is our day for fixing a big family meal. For us that’s honey baked ham, scalloped potatoes, corn on the cob, fried okra, country green beans, brown sugar BBQ beans, geenbean/mushroom caserole and homemade baked dinner rolls. Garrett is a fantastic baker! Oh and of course dessert, chocolate silk pie and strawberry cheesecake.

What ever you do during this time of year, we hope it’s a happy and joyous time. And that you find yourself in a healthy and prosperous New Year.

Happy Holidays!
And Many Blessings,

Faerie Inspirations

faeriemagFaerie Magazine

I admit it, I’m a Facebook-aholic. One of the pages I follow is for the Faerie Magazine. Every now and then they post images of some of the beautiful and magikal places around the world that simply inspire a vision in my head.

Faeries fluttering in the misty woods, spreading their sparkling magik glitter over plants, trees and animals. Leaving behind all colors of the rainbow and groves of mushrooms where they’ve danced in a circle to celebrate their work and play.

I usually comment on the post to share the vision. But for those who don’t have facebook or follow me, I thought I’d share a few of them here.

Nails – Classic Nouveau

20150824-ClassicNouveauIn Honor of Art Nouveau

I love old black and white movies! What I call the real classics with James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Joan Fontaine, Rosalind Russell and Hedy Lamar.  Those were real actors. Some of my most favorite old movies are “Arsenic and Old Lace” with Cary Grant. “The Philadelphia Story” with Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart.  Who wouldn’t like “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. Oh my was he a handsome man!

Then there’s those campy whodunits! I love Nick and Nora Charles played by William Powell and Myrna Loy. “The Thin Man” is one of my all time favorites! As are all six of the movies in the series.

But what does all this have to do with getting a new nail design? Last month’s nail art was a little over the top for me. It was beautiful and I did like it. But it was a bit “more” than I wanted for another two weeks. So I wanted to give my artists an example of what I wanted on a more conservative slant. Continue reading

The Dog Days of August

Hot August Summertime

Hot August Summertime

The Hot Summer

Here in Virginia, our hottest month for the summer time is August! It’s hot, but more than that, it’s humid! East of the Blue Ridge mountains, Virginia is a huge swamp. And the humidity from the region can make the temperature feel 10° hotter than the gauge proclaims.

So this month, I went looking for a color that said “hot”. And I found a nice orange to represent the Sun and the heat of the Dogs Days of Summer.

This week I was back sitting with my favorite artist, Ms. May and once again I let her go to town with the design. This time it was a little more than I expected. But I like it. After all I can change it in 2 or 3 weeks. Maybe a little less design next time.

SSL Not Working For Thunderbird v38.1.0

Manual Configuration

Manual Configuration

July 25, 2015 Work Around

If you like Mozilla’s email client Thunderbird you may have downloaded and applied the recent 38.1.0 update and suddenly had a problem with sending and receiving secure mail, known as SSL.

Well take heart, it’s not you. It’s a conflict between Tbird and your mail server. The problem lies in the detection of the authentication methods supported by the mail server.  You can try to notify your mail host, but they may not respond to your note or do anything about the issue. So you’ll need a work around.

Even though this is a known issue, Mozilla says it’s not on their end. It’s in the default configuration of the email server installation. So there won’t be a Tbird fix coming down the pike.

There are a few different ways you might see this error:

  • Cannot Fetch mail using IMAP and send mail using SMTP
  • Authentication Method Not Detected
  • An error occurred during a connection to mail host

Celebrating Independence

It’s that time again, and there’s nothing like celebrating America’s Independence like the Red, White and Blue!

I asked Ms. Lilly to give me a patriotic theme and this is what she came up with. Simple and clean. With a flair of silver sparkly. It’s hard to see it in this picture, but it’s there.

I like it. As usual. I left feeling special and fancy. Going to get your nails done is one little pampering that really heals your whole mind and outlook. At least for me anyway.

Pound Puppies

Adopt A Shelter PetSave A Life – Adopt A Shelter Pet
The Story Of My Day

My beautiful friend Angela, turned me onto a Pound Puppy adoption event today at a local PetSmart. It was an hour and 10-minute drive from home, but I figured there must be a reason I should go. I checked out the Chesterfield Human Society shelter and their Facebook page where they had posted a few pictures of the puppies they’d be bringing to the store. One of them caught my attention. So today, on a Saturday, I got up at 7:20, got ready, made my morning stops and headed south.

This past November we lost my beloved dalmatian Rascal to a blood clot. In 2011, we lost her big sister Destinie to a stroke. But these past 6 months have been the first time in my life I haven’t had a dog with me. It’s been hard. Tougher than I expected actually. And that feeling probably prolonged the grieving longer than I would have liked. Continue reading
