Weekly Observations

What We Saw This Week

Some of my observations from around the social media networks. Comments I made, events I shared. Stories with some laughter and some concern. Some news stories that created annoyance with politics  or moments of joy with a few good news stories too.

The White House just announced that it won’t pull federal funding to North Carolina while we take them to court. Sometimes the only way to stop a bully is to stand your ground and stare them down.

May 13, 2016 2:27pm
If standing up for equal rights is being a bully, then I think the U.S. Government has the bigger balls. You however are a disgrace pandering to the ignorant few with taxpayer money that should be going to the education of NC’s future.

I love the way some Republicans try to make liberal a dirty word. When it is the liberal who’s standing up for the US Constitution and equal rights under the law for everyone. Whereas these Republicans are standing up for religious law and bigotry. How is that different than Sharia law that Americans claim to hate? Here’s a clue, it’s not. If that’s McCoy’s idea of conservative values, no one needs his brand of Sharia law in this country.

I’d go as far as saying NEVER. It’s always been my experience that homicide victims are dead – but maybe it’s just me. #ghostwhisperer

Is Facebook Suppressing Politically Conservative Content?
The fallout continues after the tech website Gizmodo published an article alleging that Facebook wasn’t just relying on algorithms to identify trending topics on the social media platform.

May 11, 2016 2:36pm
Who cares. If you get your political news from Facebook, you don’t need to be voting in the first place.

Understanding that Hillbilly Accent… A quick lesson on southern linguistics and its origins… Ya’ll listen up…

May 11, 2016 6:50pm
Well she glossed over a lot of the original influences.
– Virginia’s accent is a mix of British and Irish blends that came from the early settlers.
– North Carolina was primarily settled by Irish and Scottish dialects. And while they are similar, they’re not the same. Then throw in a little British and you get the unique NC accent.
– The NC combination moved west into Tennessee. But with less British influence, the Tennessee dialect speeds up and distinguishes itself from NC.
– South Carolina’s dialect is a combination of Scottish and German, with a little British added in.
– Georgia holds the slowest dialect, which is based in German, a little Spanish and some British.
– And the original Florida dialect is a combination of German, British and Spanish in the north. With less German, British and Spanish in the south.

When you spend time on the Genealogy of your ancestors, you notice a pattern of settlers to certain areas in the original 13 colonies. These migrations from Europe were primarily based on cost. That is the cost of boat fare to cross the Atlantic. For instance in the 1760s, fare from Scotland to the colonies was 10$ cheaper if you traveled to Pennsylvania instead of New York. And so on to the east coast. That’s huge in the colonial era.

Once the first groups from these countries traveled south and found areas to settle, they sent for their families to join them. Thus different areas were settled more by certain groups than others which influenced the dialects we know today.

When you sneeze and every bone in you spine cracks…omg, it felt so good and reminded me that I’d spent the day moving furniture and boxes that hurt so much. Lol

Some guy had a violent sneeze while driving and ran into my parked car.
Knew a guy at work who had a big sneeze and herniated a disc in his lower back.
They can be dangerous things.

Tell Roy Cooper to do his job and defend North Carolina against federal government overreach.

May 09, 2016 8:16pm
By not defending this unconstitutional law, Mr. Cooper IS doing his job. This is a frivolous lawsuit that has no chance of standing. Nor should it.

Prevent pests and disease in your garden with these tips!
Pests and Problems – The Old Farmer’s Almanac
The Almanac Garden Plant Pest and Disease control Library has information on identifying and controlling your most common insect pests and critters – from aphids and horn-worms to rabbits and deer!

One person’s pest, is another person’s friend. My grand mother taught me that the best way to have a plentiful garden isn’t by insulting Mother Nature and killing her creatures. But by sharing the bounty with them. She would make a garden inside a fenced area. Then build a garden around the outside of that fence to feed the squirrels, Coons, Rabbits and other animals. In front of the veggie plants she planted Marigolds to attract bugs who would eat the harmful bugs that threatened her garden.

I am going to keep our jobs in the U.S., and totally rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. Crooked Hillary has no clue!

May 07, 2016 4:31pm
So does that include all the jobs out of the country that make his signature clothing line? How does anyone believe anything this idiot says?

…you can’t pick your ‘relatives’.
