Weekly Observations

Weekly Observations

What We Saw This Week
I haven’t been keeping my personal blog updated and last night I had a dream about sharing some of my observations of the week. I woke up thinking that’s a kewl idea. So this is my first Observations installment.

Some of my observations from around the social media networks. Comments I made, events I shared. Stories with some laughter and some concern. Some news stories that created annoyance with politics  or moments of joy with a few good news stories too.

Minnesota company’s gun folds up to look like a cellphone

So now cops have to worry about being shot by everyone holding a cell phone. So you witness a crime, grab your phone to call 911 and find a cops gun pointed right at you. Not to mention the new danger of children wanting to be like Mommy and Daddy, so they get hold of this and kill someone, or themselves. Yeah, this thing is a great idea. NOT! Continue reading

Nails – Classic Nouveau

20150824-ClassicNouveauIn Honor of Art Nouveau

I love old black and white movies! What I call the real classics with James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Joan Fontaine, Rosalind Russell and Hedy Lamar.  Those were real actors. Some of my most favorite old movies are “Arsenic and Old Lace” with Cary Grant. “The Philadelphia Story” with Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart.  Who wouldn’t like “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. Oh my was he a handsome man!

Then there’s those campy whodunits! I love Nick and Nora Charles played by William Powell and Myrna Loy. “The Thin Man” is one of my all time favorites! As are all six of the movies in the series.

But what does all this have to do with getting a new nail design? Last month’s nail art was a little over the top for me. It was beautiful and I did like it. But it was a bit “more” than I wanted for another two weeks. So I wanted to give my artists an example of what I wanted on a more conservative slant. Continue reading

The Dog Days of August

Hot August Summertime

Hot August Summertime

The Hot Summer

Here in Virginia, our hottest month for the summer time is August! It’s hot, but more than that, it’s humid! East of the Blue Ridge mountains, Virginia is a huge swamp. And the humidity from the region can make the temperature feel 10° hotter than the gauge proclaims.

So this month, I went looking for a color that said “hot”. And I found a nice orange to represent the Sun and the heat of the Dogs Days of Summer.

This week I was back sitting with my favorite artist, Ms. May and once again I let her go to town with the design. This time it was a little more than I expected. But I like it. After all I can change it in 2 or 3 weeks. Maybe a little less design next time.

My Nail Art is Designed at Top Ten Nails, Ladysmith Virginia.

SSL Not Working For Thunderbird v38.1.0

July 25, 2015 Work Around

If you like Mozilla’s email client Thunderbird you may have downloaded and applied the recent 38.1.0 update and suddenly had a problem with sending and receiving secure mail, known as SSL.

Well take heart, it’s not you. It’s a conflict between Tbird and your mail server. The problem lies in the detection of the authentication methods supported by the mail server.  You can try to notify your mail host, but they may not respond to your note or do anything about the issue. So you’ll need a work around.

Even though this is a known issue, Mozilla says it’s not on their end. It’s in the default configuration of the email server installation. So there won’t be a Tbird fix coming down the pike.

There are a few different ways you might see this error:

  • Cannot Fetch mail using IMAP and send mail using SMTP
  • Authentication Method Not Detected
  • An error occurred during a connection to mail host

July Is For Red, White and Blue

Celebrating Independence

It’s that time again, and there’s nothing like celebrating America’s Independence like the Red, White and Blue!

I asked Ms. Lilly to give me a patriotic theme and this is what she came up with. Simple and clean. With a flair of silver sparkly. It’s hard to see it in this picture, but it’s there.

I like it. As usual. I left feeling special and fancy. Going to get your nails done is one little pampering that really heals your whole mind and outlook. At least for me anyway.

Marriage Equality

Love Is Love

Celebrating A Historic Day

The Supreme Court rules gay couples nationwide have a right to marry. “Under the Constitution, same-sex couples seek in marriage the same legal treatment as opposite-sex couples, and it would disparage their choices and diminish their personhood to deny them this right,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion. ~ Read the coverage at The Washington Post.

The first wedding I officiated was for a same-sex couple. It has always bothered me that the wedding wasn’t “Legal” here in Virginia at the time. Not only for the couple, but as a minister licensed in this Commonwealth there was something lacking in the celebration. It was my first official wedding and there was nothing to mark the occasion.
