Happy Friday the 13th, 2016

thirteen-wolfIt’s A Lucky Day for Some

It’s another occurrence of the 13th falling on a Friday. And to Pagan’s that’s a good day!

Fear of Friday the 13th is known as triskaidekaphobes.

While the mainstream Western World runs in fear from Friday the 13th, many pagans should shed those made up connotations and revel in the day as one to be celebrated with joy and excitement. It’s a time to let go of the old that maybe holding you back and welcome in the new. It’s a day to honor the Divine (whatever that is to you) and connect with spirit for progress, and positive transformation. It’s a good day to create new ritual tools, such as carving a new wand, fashioning a new broom or even simply cleaning off your altar and re-organizing your supply closet.

Whither you’re Pagan or not, we would like to send out our wish for you to have a Wondrous and Happy Friday the 13th!

Getting Rid of Windows 10 and Weird Directories

filesystemsRecovering Space & Running Your PC Faster

Everyone wants their PC to run as fast as it did when you first brought it home. But trying to maintain that clean processing power means you have to keep up with updates and maintenance on your machine. That can be time-consuming, but it can also be daunting for the novice user.

Well there’s help! So don’t give up. It’s easier than you think.

Removing Unwanted Windows 10 Files
Let’s start with Windows 10. Microsoft downloaded the upgrade to your system, whither you wanted it or not. That’s great if you want to upgrade. But if you’re happy with your current version of Windows, having Microsoft constantly ask you to upgrade is annoying. Those update files are also taking up a fair bit of space. But how can you get rid of all that? Continue reading

NASCAR – Shortens Xfinity Series Race

201604RIR

NASCAR Mobile App – Notice the 0/250 Laps

With No Explanation, Fans Lose 40 Laps

NASCAR Fans generally love racing at Richmond International Raceway in Virginia. It’s a short track, has a lot of action, drivers love the track and RIR really knows how to put on a good show!

The sanctioning body decided some changes were needed to improve the spring weekend of racing at this venue. So last year they announced the night races would be moved to the day time. The Xfinity Series race moved from Friday night to Saturday day. The Sprint Cup race moved from Saturday night, to Sunday day. A lot of people really liked that idea.

But then NASCAR decided that wasn’t enough and the 2016 ToyotaCare 250 happened going from a 250 lap race to 140 lap race. And that isn’t a good thing. Any time you decide to shorten a race, you’re taking action away from fans.

NASCAR decided to change the qualifying format for the Xfinity Series race starting at the spring Bristol race on April 16. The series would now qualify for starting positions in 2 heat races. Not many people were a fan of this idea, but ok, let’s give it a shot. Some folks believed the shortened Main race was better at Bristol than years past, and attributed that to the heat races. Others thought it was merely coincidence. After all, it’s Bristol. Continue reading

Weekly Observations For March 26th

Weekly Observations

Weekly Observations

What We Saw This Week
I haven’t been keeping my personal blog updated and last night I had a dream about sharing some of my observations of the week. I woke up thinking that’s a kewl idea. So this is my first Observations installment.

Some of my observations from around the social media networks. Comments I made, events I shared. Stories with some laughter and some concern. Some news stories that created annoyance with politics  or moments of joy with a few good news stories too.

Minnesota company’s gun folds up to look like a cellphone

So now cops have to worry about being shot by everyone holding a cell phone. So you witness a crime, grab your phone to call 911 and find a cops gun pointed right at you. Not to mention the new danger of children wanting to be like Mommy and Daddy, so they get hold of this and kill someone, or themselves. Yeah, this thing is a great idea. NOT! Continue reading

Pixilated

mrdeedsMy Favorite Word

Origin of pixilated. altered ; from pixy-led, lost, literally, led astray by pixies, influenced, influence by past participle of verbs in -late (as elated, titillated).

One of my favorite words in the english language is “Pixilated”. I first heard the word in a movie starring Gary Cooper. Two little old ladies are called as witnesses in a court case and asked about the character of Longfellow Deeds. They say “Longfellow has always been a little pixilated.” I’ve been in love with the word ever since.

This morning Garrett and I were talking about the word and I was trying to remember the name of the movie the line comes from. Which was made more difficult since I’m on some heavy-duty pain meds from a recent surgery. And it didn’t help that I remember the movie as a Cary Grant film, which isn’t the right leading actor for this movie. But off to do a search and find the title.

It’s not easy finding obscure things on the internet. After 45 minutes of futility searching, I finally found an interesting site that provides full scripts from both movies and tv. How helpful! Script-o-rama.com.

Armed with the name of the movie IMDB provided the rest of the information. Made in 1936 by Frank Capra, starring Gary Cooper and Jean Arthur.

“Mr. Deeds Goes To Town”
Longfellow Deeds lives in a small town, leading a small town kind of life – including playing the tuba in the town band. When a relative dies and leaves Deeds a fortune, Longfellow picks up his tuba and moves to the big city where he becomes an instant target for everyone from the greedy opera committee to the sensationist daily newspaper. Deeds outwits them all until Babe Bennett comes along. Babe is a hot-shot reporter who figures the best way to get close to Deeds is to pose as a damsel in distress. When small-town boy meets big-city girl anything can, and does, happen.

Now if I ever need to find a movie quote, I know where to go for help.
