Not The Enemy Of The People

Defend The Free Press

Supporting The Free Press
August 16, 2018

Today, August 16th, 2018 is the national day to support America’s Free Press. The idea began with the Boston Globe proposing that all Newspapers Rally To Protect The Free Press. The coordinated effort for an editorial response from publications across the U.S. to President Donald Trump’s frequent attacks on the news media.

Beginning as early as one month after being sworn into office, Trump labeled the News Media “The Enemy of the People”. According to the Washington Post, he has “used the word “fake” — as in “fake news,” “fake stories,” “fake media” or “fake polls” — more than 400 times” in the past 19 months.

He constantly tells his followers at rallies, that you can’t believe the “Fake News”, and “what they say is going on, isn’t what’s really happening”. All this to undermine the credibility of ethical and factual reporting that is critical of his actions, both past and present. Continue reading

America Isn’t Easy

Image via Getty/Michael Zagaris/Contributor

America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You’ve gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say, “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.” You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag.” – The American President 1995

Freedom of speech is a principal pillar of a free government: When this support is taken away, the constitution of a free society is dissolved,” wrote Founding Father Benjamin Franklin in The Pennsylvania Gazette.

You can’t claim to be a Patriotic American and then oppose the First Amendment of the Constitution and those American values. Sorry, you don’t get it both ways. You want to complain about disrespect of the military, then remember what those Military forces have and continue to fight for. Anything less, is the true disrespect. #LetThemKneel!

Get Help For Drugs Dropped from Insurance Plans

insulinThe Price Of Medication Going Up

Tonight on NBC Nightly News, they shared a story about prescription drug prices and the fight between insurance companies and pharmaceutical corporations to cut costs for prescriptions. As the pharmaceutical industry increases prices on drugs people need to survive, everyone is trying to find ways to save money, including Insurance companies.

Congress can act like they’re offended and concerned about the greed being shown by pharmaceuticals. But let’s face it, IF they do anything about it, it won’t help us afford our necessary medications for several years to come. Those average citizens who have a terminal disease can literally be put in the position of choosing life or death because they can’t afford their prescriptions. Those people who have a disease that can be managed, like diabetes, may also be forced into that same position because of the cost of their maintenance drugs.

Now the insurance companies are making a case that they’re trying to “help” us average citizens by forcing the pharmaceutical industry to lower its prices on commonly used medications. Ok, I can understand the concept. If you want to force any industry into lowering its prices, hit them where it hurts most, in their bottom line. But at the same time, you know the insurance companies are doing the same thing to customers that big pharma is doing.  Continue reading

Windows 10 Last Gasp – AGAIN! UGH

frustratedMicrosoft Is At It Again and Again and Again

On April 24th, 2016 I shared a method for getting rid of those annoying Windows 10 upgrade reminders that Microsoft installed on your pc, whither you wanted it or not.

Then Microsoft wrote a Malware program to get around that fix. They snuck in a the same update and reinstalled the “Get Windows 10” app (KB3035583) on May 6th. Even when I said I didn’t want it.

The method to uninstall the Win10 updates had been provided by BetaNews who shared a great step by step article to help you with this annoying issue, still works. See Remove unwanted Windows 10 upgrade files from Windows 7 and Windows 8.x

Then on July 16 they’re at it again. This time they installed an update KB3173040 to tell you:

If you have Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), the following full-screen notification might appear on your computer:
Sorry to interrupt, but this is important.
Windows 10 free upgrade offer ends July 29.

And now, July 21, they did it again! They reinstalled update (kb3035583). Yes, even if you told them you don’t want that update ever again. Continue reading

Windows 10 Malware Big Blue Screen

frustratedMicrosoft Is At It Again

Now we’re up to July 16 and they’re at it again. This time they’ve installed an update KB3173040 to tell you:

If you have Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 (SP1), the following full-screen notification might appear on your computer:
Sorry to interrupt, but this is important.
Windows 10 free upgrade offer ends July 29.

Don’t they get it? I DON’T WANT Win10 AT ALL!

So thanks to BetaNews we can use the same steps to get rid of this new annoyance. They say they provide you with a “don’t remind me again”; but after all this, who’s going to believe that? I’m not.

Here’s what you can do to uninstall this updated and keep it from happening again.
Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall or change a program.
Click View installed updates on the left.
Use the search box to locate the following updates:
– KB3173040
Right-click and select Uninstall.
When done:
Go to System and security in the Control Panel,
Select Windows Update > Check for updates.
Right-click each of the above updates in turn and select Hide update.

Then reboot your system. Hopefully that takes care of the problem. This time.
