Revamping My Old WebSite
So if you didn’t read the About page, let me bring you quickly up to date. Springwolf.com has existed on the web in some form since 1997. As a domain since 2000.
It hasn’t changed a lot during that time. 14 years of static webpages and of course some of them are outdated, some have gotten stale and some still have value. But it’s time to remodel and redecorate. It’s going to take a few days to get all that done. This is day two and I’ve just gotten started.
This has been an interesting experience I must say. I’ve learned things about PHP that I didn’t know before. Which is good. I found some widgets that I really like and will make things easier for Reflections. And the Analytics on the blog are SO much better than they are on the static website (that you can get for free) and I can see what’s popular and what still pulls people into my old site. I’m surprised at the IT Audit/Compliance stuff that still gets a number of hits. I wasn’t even going to put that back out there, but I guess I will now. That reminds me, I need to add a post about Site Analytics!
I’ve been in the Information Technology industry for..well, longer than I’d like to remember. I’ve been a Data Administrator, do you remember the days of tracking data elements through a Data Dictionary, or Meta-Data Repository? Oh and let’s not forget those Information Design Tools like IEF where you could map out EDDs, ERDs and PRDs. And I still remember what all the acronyms stand for!
Thankfully things got fun later on when I installed my first webserver for the company’s intranet. In 1994 it was nothing more than a prototype, a proof of concept. Imagine having to prove to company execs that web technology is the direction of doing business in America. We actually had to fight to get funding and push forward with what we knew was going to be the “next big thing”.
Infrastructure management and web technology was interesting. But after a while, even that becomes a little boring. Bring on IT Audit. Actually it started out with a little more drama than that. Compliance! Once again I was tapped to get involved before things hit the fan in 2000/2001. The Company was getting in a little trouble with the books, but not the way you might think. While our biggest competitor had over reported its profits; we had under reported ours. Bring on Sarbanes-Oxley 404 in 2002. Then the recession hit. Gee thanks Wall Street.
Thankfully I’ve been able to put that internet experience to good use for my own and for my husband’s business as well. Between design, learning about blogging, WordPress, social media advertising and interaction with customers and clients, it’s been a beneficial process!
So if you’re looking for IT information, Audit and Compliance insight, small business tricks and tidbits; stay tuned. I’m working on it!
