Space In 3-D!

A Simple Gift That Opened The Universe

So back on June 6th NBC shared an interesting Tweet.

And being the science geek I am, I had to take a look at the picture. Pretty kewl looking, don’t you think? I did and I replied to NBCs tweet.

@NBCNews @b0yle It looks like a bull dog. —

Well that started some fun!

Now of course, with a son who is an aspiring Astrophysicist I jumped at the chance for him to learn something from a national news Science reporter!

And today, our 3-d specs came in the mail. We couldn’t wait to check the email Alan sent with the 3-d links attached.

If you have a pair of 3-d glasses lying around from your last time at the movies, get them out and check out these links!!

The robot is pretty kewl. But the link we liked the most was the 3-d images of our own Moon. The kid and I both tried to reach out and grab it to see what it was like. We were both about 4 inches away from the laptop screen.

If you don’t have a pair of 3-d glasses, well you’ll have to make some or run out to the craft store and see if you can pick up a pair of paper/cardboard glasses. You can make them at home with these instructions – PaperProject Make Your Own 3-d Glasses.

Once you have your glasses, check these out and see all sorts of spacey 3-D goodies:

Enjoy. And a big thanks to Alan Boyle for such an inspiring gift. It may not have cost much more than the price of a stamp; but it opened a huge Universe for my son and that is…Priceless!
