Weekly Observations

What We Saw This Week
I haven’t been keeping my personal blog updated and last night I had a dream about sharing some of my observations of the week. I woke up thinking that’s a kewl idea. So this is my first Observations installment.

Some of my observations from around the social media networks. Comments I made, events I shared. Stories with some laughter and some concern. Some news stories that created annoyance with politics  or moments of joy with a few good news stories too.

Minnesota company’s gun folds up to look like a cellphone

So now cops have to worry about being shot by everyone holding a cell phone. So you witness a crime, grab your phone to call 911 and find a cops gun pointed right at you. Not to mention the new danger of children wanting to be like Mommy and Daddy, so they get hold of this and kill someone, or themselves. Yeah, this thing is a great idea. NOT!

It is a misconception that only bad people with illegal guns kill people. According to the ATF more than 70% of gun crimes involve legally obtained firearms. And over 80% of mass shootings have been committed with legal guns. So how do you identify the “wrong” person?

When someone disagrees with your views it doesn’t mean they’re saying you’re wrong. It simply means they have a different perspective. There’s no reason to take the explanation of their views as a personal attack. They may simply be sharing their research on the topic and what they have experienced.

It’s ok to learn from others and say you didn’t know something. You can use the response as a topic to further your research. Keywords to Google and discover additional information or even alternative perspectives.

But it’s also important to remember that we can’t know everything, even if we are labeled as an expert in a particular subject. We all have more learning to do. So remember to keep your ego out of your posts, and it can never be hurt or harmed.

I don’t believe in not judging. We make judgements everyday and in every moment. We judge the weather to help us decide what to wear. We judge situations to determine how we should or shouldn’t react. We judge our surroundings in order to keep us safe and out of harms way. There’s nothing wrong with judgement. But like all things in life, the extremes are never good or positive. Too much and you could judge others harshly or unfairly. Not enough judgement and you could put yourself in a situation that might cause you harm. Life is about balance. Too much of anything is never good for you. When did using judgement become a bad thing?

To me it’s like the chicken and the egg. When you live in balance and use your judgement to make choices, you give yourself the opportunity to feel and “be in that moment”. By the same token, when you live out of balance and use your judgement to make inappropriate choices, you can take away that opportunity because you’re dealing with drama/trauma. So which comes first? The ability to live in the moment? Or the judgement that lead you to that opportunity?

Trump Backtracks On Comments About Abortion And ‘Punishment’ For Women
Donald Trump said women who undergo abortions should be punished if the procedure is made illegal. In an interview for a town hall meeting to air on MSNBC Wednesday night, Trump said “there has to be some form of punishment” for women.

I really don’t understand how anyone can support this ignorant man.

U.S. Geology Maps Reveal Areas Vulnerable To Man-Made Quakes
Suddenly, 7 million Americans are now living in earthquake zones.

The original article talked about scientist suddenly realizing quakes are on the increase and are linked to man-made issues. Suddenly? Have these people not heard the complaints about fracking?

Did you feel the earth move in Louisa yesterday? Confirmation tonight of what many of my Facebook friends suspected on Easter Sunday, a 2.3 aftershock. And yes – the terminology is correct. Even after all this time, they’re still considered “aftershocks.” ‪#‎earthquake‬

Is that what that was. The boy child and I talked about the slight rumble noise the house seemed to make. And I made note that it might have been a quake. Guess it really was.

ACLU Sues Over North Carolina’s Law Blocking Anti-Discrimination Legislation
The law, passed last week in a special session by the state’s Legislature and signed by Gov. Pat McCrory, blocks “local governments from passing anti-discrimination rules to grant protections to gay and transgender people.”

You cannot legislate bigotry in any form! I’m so glad we have the ACLU in this country, to help ensure the Constitution of the United States applies to all and not simply to those in power.

I really want to go back down home and see this again. I was in my teens the first time they held a storytelling event. But it was during Jonesborough’s 4th of July celebration. Who knew that little side event would turn into something so great!

Study shows big drop in people who believe in God

Of course they mean the Christian “God”. But many of us already knew the transition away from organized religion of the big 3 was failing. It’s been going on for nearly 2 decades, if not longer.

President Obama’s total reversal on offshore energy can only be described as a special political favor to far-left activists that have no problem importing energy resources from countries hostile to the United States.

To Gov. Pat McCrory (R) North Carolina
Actually it’s called policy to protect the environment.
