Nails – Classic Nouveau

20150824-ClassicNouveauIn Honor of Art Nouveau

I love old black and white movies! What I call the real classics with James Cagney, Gary Cooper, Clark Gable, Joan Fontaine, Rosalind Russell and Hedy Lamar.  Those were real actors. Some of my most favorite old movies are “Arsenic and Old Lace” with Cary Grant. “The Philadelphia Story” with Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and Jimmy Stewart.  Who wouldn’t like “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison. Oh my was he a handsome man!

Then there’s those campy whodunits! I love Nick and Nora Charles played by William Powell and Myrna Loy. “The Thin Man” is one of my all time favorites! As are all six of the movies in the series.

But what does all this have to do with getting a new nail design? Last month’s nail art was a little over the top for me. It was beautiful and I did like it. But it was a bit “more” than I wanted for another two weeks. So I wanted to give my artists an example of what I wanted on a more conservative slant.

Off to Google and a search for “nail design” images. What a huge result to choose from. And so many wonderfully creative designs. Some of which I know are done with an air brush, so those were not going to be an option. But wow are some of those absolutely gorgeous!

Some could be done free-hand, but would take more time than I had today. Then I found it. A simple classic design that reminded me of those early black and white movies with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers with an art nouveau back-drop.

In my head, art nouveau is classic, full of sweeping movements and swirls. A description published in Pan magazine described it as “sudden violent curves generated by the crack of a whip“.

I showed Ms. Lynn the picture on my cell phone and asked if she could do “something” like this. Not exact, but the general design concept. She studied the image for a little bit and went to work. I think she did a great job adding her own little flair. I love it!
